Testing Concludes on Prototype Hybrid Fuel Rescue Truck

The Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) has completed a series of tests and demonstrations for a prototype carbon-free disaster response vehicle.

The H2@Rescue Emergency Relief Truck is a first-of-its kind hydrogen fuel cell/battery hybrid vehicle that can be driven to disaster recovery sites to provide on-site power for up to 72 hours without refueling. H2@Rescue was designed to provide first responders with increased operational flexibility, extended range and rapid charging capabilities. It can:

• Operate as a self-propelled electric generator.
• Travel 180 miles and provide up to 25 kilowatts export power (enough to power 20 average U.S. homes).
• Operate at full capacity with little to no noise, exhaust or emissions.
• Provide first responders with increased operational flexibility, extended range and rapid charging capabilities.
