Louisiana has passed the following legislation banning or limiting the sale of novelty and toylike lighters:
This Act bans the sale of novelty lighters. Law enforcement will be able to seize novelty lighters from retailers. Having a lighter is punishable by a $250 fine. The bill's sponsor, state Rep. Karen St. Germain (D-Pierre Part), said that a childhood friend suffered serious burns while playing with a "baby doll lighter."
