Some may say it has been a quiet summer, and welcome to the Fall equinox. The Station Fire in Angeles National Forest provided shadowing opportunities for three AHIMTs: South Carolina, Alabama, and the National Capital Region. These field mentoring opportunities again provided professional development within their specific ICS position, and further work towards completion of their ICS Position Specific Task Books.
As you will notice I have removed the AHIMT field mentoring rotational schedule and provided an explanation and new process there on the AHIMT Web site. We feel it will be a more manageable process for all.
As many of you know, we have a new U.S. Fire Administrator on board - Chief Kelvin Cochran from the Bureau of Fire in Atlanta. I have known Chief Cochran for the better part of 25 years and he comes to us with an enthusiasm for what the U.S. Fire Administration should be doing, and working with our partners and parent agencies of FEMA and DHS. Both he, and Deputy Administrator Glenn Gaines, are strong supporters of the AHIMT program and I will be working with them to further enhance the program within the Federal budgetary process.
As mentioned in previous updates, the Second Annual AHIMT Conference will be held in Houston, Texas November 4-6 at the Houston Hobby Airport Hilton. The Web site for registering and additional information is available at AHIMT.net.
Hope to see you there. Keep safe and always remember our troops, and those members of our profession who have gone before us. Keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
