First Semester Application Period Opens May 1

Emmitsburg, MD - The first of May (May 1, 2006) marks the opening of the first semester fiscal year (FY) 2007 application period for the U. S. Fire Administration's National Fire Academy. The application period runs from May 1 through June 30, 2006. The first semester includes those courses scheduled for delivery October 1, 2006 through March 31, 2007.

"The variety of courses being offered during the first semester cover all 11 NFA curriculum areas and include a mix of delivery options", said NFA Superintendent Dr. Denis Onieal. "It's the Academy's job to enhance the ability of the Nation's fire and emergency services community to deal more effectively with fire and related emergencies. Our programs clearly support this effort."

In addition to eight (8) two-week sessions and five (5) six-day sessions, the schedule also includes two (2) sessions of the Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP). The VIP sessions are scheduled for November 5-10, 2006, with 8 different courses being offered, and February 25 - March 2, 2007, with 9 different courses being offered. The VIP is an intensive six-day educational opportunity designed specifically for volunteer and combination department emergency services personnel.
