News Release Date: November 3, 2006

Emmitsburg, MD- The United States Fire Administration, in cooperation with the United States Forest Service and the national fire service organizations, announced today that the Esperanza Firefighter Memorial Services from California will be available live via satellite on Sunday, November 5, 2006, beginning at 1:00 pm Pacific Standard Time, 4pm Eastern Standard Time. This memorial service will honor the five firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty this past week, Mark Loutzenhiser, Jess McLean, Jason McKay, Daniel Hoover Najera and Pablo Cerda.

"I encourage firefighters wishing to join our nation to embrace the families and honor the ultimate sacrifices of Mark, Jess, Jason, Daniel and Pablo to contact their local governmental channels to ensure the downlink necessary to join with all firefighters in this time of remembrance," said Charlie Dickinson, Acting United States Fire Administrator.

The USFA's National Preparedness Network (PREPnet), part of the USFA and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will provide some additional memorial service video via web-streaming starting in the middle of next week. To ensure this broadcast can be seen in your area, contact your local government station managers and local media and inform them of this opportunity to carry the event live or to rebroadcast on the cable providers in your area. "It is my desire that all firefighters are able to join these remembrance ceremonies this Sunday," added Dickinson.
